It Is The Spring Of 1940
March - May Open for Play

Lines are drawn. Wands are at the ready. Everyone must choose a side. The fight to maintain the Statute of Secrecy is not just against Grindlewald and his followers, though. Muggle armies across Europe and Asia are stirring up more than dust and death. Creatures of all sorts are caught in the crossfire. From unicorns to dragons and bowtruckles to dementors. Someone has to dare the front lines to keep the unexplainable unseen. So if you have the moxie to wrangle poxies under enemy fire the Micky's are calling on you.

In brief Frederic is a moderately attractive man in good physical form. Standing at six foot two he is taller than average and built for athleticism. He enjoys hiking and dueling for exercise. He prefers closely cut suits in dark colors so that his often ink stained fingers do not ruin them. His shirts are all discolored around the sleeve hems. He rarely wears wizards' robes.

The finer points of his appearance are unremarkable but pleasing. He has a bold jawline, a very blunt chin, and brown eyes that tend to linger too long over people. Yes, heís imagining you naked. Itís not usually always sexual. Its 95% artistic interest. Many find the span or intensity of his gaze disconcerting. As it is unintentional the uncomfortable reactions of his subjects often result in a great deal of blushing and embarrassment on his part. He has a restless spirit with hands that are always itching for a quill or pencil. They move constantly and accentuate his every word. Of course an artist does do quite a bit of sitting still. The compromise is the tapping of his heel.

Wizard's Workbook

Magical Apptitude
An accomplished duelist with strong defensive and militant spell skills. He is hopeless at most simple charmwork and failed Transfiguration in school.

Frederic is known as a very charming man. He is easily amused, listens more than he speaks, and knows a great deal of interesting factoids. Those that know him intimately, however, have suffered the full depth of his personality. They see how awkward he is when forced to make conversation. Made more so by a complete lack of humor despite his ever present smiles and smirks. They have listened to his impassioned views on animal rights for hours. They've been annoyed by the way he avoids topics by randomly choosing others. All things that can make him a frustrating companion in the long term. Frederic is aware, and often separates himself from others. While he is well educated and clever he is far from scholarly. Current politics, foreign affairs, the exchange rate of silver- none of the things that matter to his peers hold weight with Frederic. Dragons and art are the only subjects that keep his interest.

In general he is calm and quick witted. A natural leader that never seems to lose focus. In tough situations he always knows the best move. Level headed and fair he rarely loses his temper, but when he does its always in someone else's defense. He is a happy man that smiles often. Pretending, usually, to get the joke when the vast majority go over his head. It is a large part of why he is a listener rather than a speaker.

The Tobias family boasts five sons and two daughters, of which Frederic is the third to youngest. Two sons died in the Great War. His surviving siblings are all married with children. All together he has thirteen nieces and nephews. Yes he can name them all in order, no he doesn't know which one is actually which.
The Tobias house in south Florida appears, to the muggle eye, as a dingy old farmhouse oddly close to a rather smelly everglade. Through the veil of magic, however, it reveals itself as a sprawling ranch often covered in goats and children. A noisy house with four floors it had plenty of room for the boisterous family to grow in. And grow they did. Often and with joy.

By the time Frederic came along his parents were a bit tired. And as soon as he was big enough to hold a little siblings they gave him two in quick order. While the joy of a large family meant never being alone, it also meant never quite standing out. Many years were spent settling into his place. They didn't always fit together perfectly, but none could imagine life without the rest.

Like the majority of his family young Frederic was eager to attend school. Mostly because he hoped to study dragons. Small wizards were all fascinated with the creatures, much as no-maj children had an innate love for dinosaurs. The strict adherence to the Statue of Secrecy meant that American wizards are not allowed wands until they begin their education at Illvermorny, and even then they are not allowed to bring them home during breaks. When he reached school Frederic had the defining honor of being wanted by three of the four houses, a rare honor indeed. Wampus, Horned Serpent, and Thunderbird all offered him a place. With the choice in his hands Frederic felt drawn to Thunderbird. Shortly after he was taken into the great hall to be chosen by a wand. It is the same one he uses to this day.

In school Frederic enjoyed a healthy level of popularity. He was athletic, a good quidditch player, and very friendly. While he struggled with some subjects his teachers found him an agreeable boy, even if he spoke too much once you got him started. He had big dreams, however, and took to Defense Against the Dark Arts because it was the only subject that discussed his truest passion- still dragons! The library in Ilvermorny was not nearly enough for him to learn all he wanted about the creatures. He studied their smaller relatives in the Americas, and was fascinated by other magical creatures as well, but nothing captured his adventurous spirit the way tales from Europe and the dragons there did.

One passion mingled with another and by his third year Frederic was decorating his dorm room with sketches and paintings of the places he wanted to travel and the dragons he hoped to see there. He had always had a penchant for art but in school his doodles grew more purposeful. He began carrying around a leather bound sketchbook. A habit that would last the rest of his life. Only now he gets to draw from sight rather than imagination.

The same week he graduated Frederic began a lengthy internship at the newly reformed Protection of Magical Species division. Their work was, sadly, not what he expected. A longstanding tradition of suppressing, rather than studying and preserving, magical beasts was the division's core focus. After the Scamander Incident of 1924 that suppression had doubled, up until his book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, caused a massive stir in magical world. His detailed methods on dealing with the beasts with humane methods changed the hearts and minds of many wizards and witches. Frederic rose up the ranks of a new department dedicated to protecting native magical creatures and rescuing imports. Over the course of the next decade Frederic worked to make his dreams come true. His intense study of his favorite subject made him one of the foremost experts in dragons worldwide. He left MACUSA to travel internationally, lecturing on the subject, advocating for the species and smaller subsets, and helping to relocate problem dragons.

When the first stirrings of trouble in Europe arose the International Confederation of Wizards began preparing for the worst. An international group of witches and wizards were selected to aid in the prevention of Statue breaches- The Magical Interest Coalition, or Mickys for short- are based in London. Frederic was selected to head the Magical Beasts division after recommendation from his friend and mentor Newt Scamander.
